Accent Modification and Communication Training

Accent Modification and Communication Training is a program that helps individuals improve their accent and communication skills in a new language. It is often utilized by non-native speakers who want to speak more clearly and effectively in their second language. Accent modification focuses on modifying pronunciation and intonation patterns to reduce the influence of a person's native accent.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a set of techniques and tools used to assist individuals with communication difficulties in expressing themselves. AAC is typically used when spoken language is limited or non-existent, or when it is not sufficient for effective communication.

Caregiver Coaching

Caregiver coaching refers to a collaborative and supportive approach in which caregivers receive guidance and training from professionals to support and enhance the development and well-being of individuals under their care. It is commonly used in the context of caring for children with special needs or individuals with disabilities.

Communication and Hearing Enhancement

Hearing enhancement refers to techniques and devices that improve an

individual's ability to hear and understand speech and other sounds.

These techniques and devices are particularly beneficial for individuals

with hearing loss or auditory processing difficulties.

Gender-Affirming Voice and Communication Services

Gender-affirming voice and communication services refer to

interventions and support aimed at helping individuals align their voice

and communication style with their gender identity.

Language (Expressive/Receptive)

Language difficulties can refer to challenges in both expressive and receptive language skills.

  • Expressive language difficulties: These difficulties are related to the production and expression of language. Individuals with expressive language difficulties may have trouble finding and using the right words, structuring sentences appropriately, or organizing their thoughts and ideas to express themselves effectively. They may also struggle to convey their message clearly or accurately in both spoken and written forms.

  • Receptive language difficulties: These difficulties are related to the understanding and comprehension of language. Individuals with receptive language difficulties may have trouble understanding spoken or written language, following instructions, comprehending complex or abstract language, or making connections between words, sentences, and concepts.

LSVT-LOUD Voice Therapy

LSVT-LOUD was developed to help people with Parkinson's regain their voices. It is now used with great success with a wide variety of other conditions as well.

Neurological Communication Disorders

Treatment for neurological communication disorders typically involves working with a speech-language pathologist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of these conditions. Therapy may focus on improving speech production, language comprehension and expression, developing compensatory strategies, and enhancing overall communication skills. Strategies such as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) may also be used to support communication when speech is severely impaired.

 

Social Communication

Social communication refers to the process of exchanging information, thoughts, and feelings with others in a social context. It involves using verbal and nonverbal cues, such as body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, and gestures, to convey messages and understand others.

Speech Sound Errors or Reduced Intelligibility

Speech sound errors or reduced intelligibility refer to difficulties in

producing and/or perceiving speech sounds, which can impact how

well others understand a person's spoken language. These difficulties

can occur in both children and adults.

Stuttering/Fluency

Stuttering, also known as fluency disorder, is a speech disorder characterized by disruptions in the flow and rhythm of speech. These disruptions may manifest as repetitions (e.g., repeating sounds or syllables), prolongations (e.g., stretching out sounds), or blocks (e.g., pauses or apparent inability to produce a sound).

Traumatic Brain Injuries

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when there is sudden damage to the brain due to external forces. TBIs can result from various causes, such as a blow to the head, a motor vehicle accident, a fall, or a sports-related injury. The impact can cause temporary or permanent changes in brain function, including speech and language abilities.

Voice

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are professionals who specialize in evaluating and treating voice disorders and helping individuals develop effective vocal communication skills. They can provide personalized therapy, exercises, and strategies to optimize voice production and improve overall communication.
